Cervo Valley, otherwise known as Bürsch (house in the Walser language), is one of the five valleys in the Biella area, perhaps the wildest.
It takes its name from the rushing stream that flows through the numerous municipalities of the valley. Its most notable feature is its stone—syenite. Nestled in the greenery of the Biella Alps, it is one of the gateways to the Oasi Zegna, arriving from Biella.
Its territory is clearly divided into two parts: the lower valley, more densely populated and linked to its industrial past, and the upper valley, more rugged and wild, known for its authenticity and charming mountain villages. Its numerous points of interest offer a fascinating journey through history, architecture, nature, and mystery, ideal for lovers of trekking, walking, and authentic atmospheres.
Its main villages:
Miagliano and Tollegno, recall the valley’s industrial past, linked to the wool industry that thrived along the Cervo River. Here, you can admire the ancient workers’ villages. DISCOVER
Sagliano Micca: Another town of great historical importance, birthplace of Pietro Micca, a famous Piedmontese hero, whose birthplace is open to visitors. DISCOVER
Campiglia Cervo, once known for its construction schools connected to the ancient, now-disused syenite quarries, bears witness to the skill of its inhabitants (stonemasons and bricklayers expert in the use of syenite, the prized local granite) with its architectural heritage of stone houses and ancient buildings. It has numerous hamlets perched on panoramic points in the valley and in the northern part, including the evocative Sanctuary of San Giovanni d’Andorno, with its imposing church and guesthouse. Rosazza, known as “the most mysterious village in Italy,” owes its fame to Federico Rosazza, a senator of the Kingdom of Italy and Grand Master of the local Freemasonry. In the mid-19th century, he transformed the village, adorning its buildings with Masonic and esoteric symbols, creating a unique and evocative atmosphere. Must-sees include Rosazza Castle, the Town Hall with its civic tower, and the church. The Alta Valle Cervo Museum is also very interesting. DISCOVER
Piedicavallo, located at the end of the valley, is an alpine village that serves as a starting point for numerous hikes and treks. It is a village characterized by typical stone architecture, surrounded by imposing peaks.
