A BICYCLE TOUR OF LAKE VIVERONE

Length: 16.7 km
Elevation gain: 164 m
Difficulty: Easy
Season: Year-round

A circular hiking trail between the coast and hills that embraces Lake Viverone, passing through rural landscapes, woods, stilt houses, and views of the Biella morainic area. This circular route allows you to discover Lake Viverone from every perspective: one stretch along the water’s edge and another winding through cultivated fields, vineyards, and woods. Starting clockwise from the Viverone marina, the trail follows the southern shore to the hamlet of Masseria, from where it climbs towards the hills of Veneria. After crossing meadows and farms, the trail re-enters the woods, following shaded and quiet paths. Shortly before Azeglio, the trail descends back towards the lake, passing a birdwatching tower and the landing stage for prehistoric stilt houses. The trail then continues along secondary roads and countryside, following traces of the Via Francigena. The trail concludes by returning to the starting point, surrounded by a gentle and varied landscape. The trail is mixed, mostly dirt, with stretches of paved road with little traffic. It’s long but not difficult.

THE OROPA CANAVESANA CYCLE PATH

Length: 144.7 km
Elevation gain: 2,261 m
Difficulty: Easy
Period: March to December

It’s a figure-of-eight itinerary, consisting of two large loops centered around Ivrea. It can be ridden in its entirety or in a single loop, from Ivrea to Cuorgnรจ and back, or from Ivrea to Oropa and back. From Ivrea station, the cycle path heads west to the Sacro Monte di Belmonte, crossing the Valle Sacra and Valchiusella, while heading east, it reaches the Sanctuary of Oropa, crossing the Serra Morenica and Valle Elvo. The routes follow scenic, mostly low-traffic roads, with short stretches of dirt roads. This is not a cycle path, but a route on roads that are also accessible by car; therefore, it is not suitable for families with children. The route is fully marked, equipped with signage and facilities, and can be divided into 3, 4, or 5 stages.
