Teaching Carabo at Moncerchio

Today the precious beetle is protected not onli in Italy but also and by the European Community; it has been the subject of research on the LIFE Carabus project.

As part of this project, the old local barn of the mountain pasture has been transformed into a classroom with a projector, speakers, electronic binocular, multiple illustrative panels and material for the laboratories. Upon request, by contacting the Arc-en-ciel guides, biodiversity laboratories can be organized to carry out, also thanks to the aid of the stereoscope, a real journey into the microcosm to discover the diversity that our eyes often do not see.

The teaching room has a glass wall communicating with the dairy to allow visitors to observe directly the different stages of milk processing in farm, illustrated by the farmers themselves.

The classroom, which can accommodate school children, tourists and organized groups, is the right place to deepen the knowledge of the valley from a naturalistic, historical and cultural point of view: in particular, mountain life, the needs of shepherds and livestock .

In addition to the alpine barn, an old teggia (a structure inhabited by shepherds) was built for educational purposes, according to traditional construction techniques: on a dry masonry base, the chestnut wood truss then the roof pitches, covered of ferns.
